Professor Jonathan Gruber leads the free microeconomics course online.

Making the best decisions—given limited resources—is the bottom line of microeconomics wisdom.

How should you spend your income? How many people should you hire for your business? These and many other individual choices may be illuminated if you plunge into the newest OpenCourseWare Scholar's course: 14.01 Principles of Microeconomics. Like all OCW offerings, it is online and free.

The course is designed for independent learners and includes more content that the usual OpenCourseWare offerings, some 2100 batches of course materials shared by MIT faculty. The scholar series includes complete lectures on video and selected readings as well as quizzes, problem sets, and exams. For a quick overview, look watch segments of lectures or read the summary notes.

Video lectures by MIT Professor Jonathan Gruber '87 are drawn from his undergraduate course. Gruber, who has served in the Treasury Department and as key architect of Massachusetts' health reform effort, says MIT is a great place to study modern microeconomics. First, it was founded at here in the 1950s by legendary economist Paul Samuelson and, second, because it kind of like engineering:

"Think of this like 2.70 but instead of building robots, we are running people's lives. Instead of trying to move a ping pong ball across a table, we are trying to understand how people make their decisions to consume and how firms make their decisions to produce."

I have been out of school a while and would like to signal to economics programs (not necessarily MIT) that would potentially admit me that I would be a good student by doing OCW work.

Is there any interaction with actual people at MIT through this OCW program, or is it just a read through? Is there any way to get a stamp for learning I've done.

Also, Economics is like engineering? Tom Lehrer had a song about this from his time at MIT:

Hi,

I hope you are well.

I am looking for an economics learning program as a study aid within a course I am currently studying.

I am studying Microeconomics MBA core module.

Do you have any suggestions of where I can find an online program and/or tutorial.

Please let me know your thoughts and looking forward to your response.
