Happy (Day After) Valentine's!

Most things MIT related are all about tradition. At least, a good number of the fun idiosyncrasies that make up MIT have happened before, and if they haven't, they are bound to in the future.Not sure what sorts of Valentine's Day traditions have existed in years past but since my freshman year there have been:1) Alpha Phi Candy Grams! I admit I am biased (since I am a sister in the Alpha Phi sorority) but coming home to find valentines attached to bags of candy stuffed in your mailbox is one of my favorite V-day surprises. The candy is also a bit sweeter knowing your valentine's purchase price was donated to the American Heart Association.2) Baker Dining's "sweetheart special" dinner. Our dorm's dining hall amped up the menu for the night and my friends and I brought our food *upstairs* (gasp!) to eat - with a tablecloth - AND we lit candles! We finished dinner just in time to attend...3) The Vagina Monologues - a popular Valentine's Day play produced at colleges and universities around the country. The production was put on entirely by MIT students; the acting was superb, and once again in the spirit of Valentine's Day philanthropy, all proceeds went to the Boston Rape Crisis Center. As a token of its love for us (or something like that), the MIT administration has given us Monday off. Thank you, MIT - the feelings are (mostly) mutual! :)
