Despite a strong start, with votes propelling Lex Luthor to a resounding week one win, MIT has lost the last two match-ups in the MIT-Cornell Fictional Alumni Face-Off. It's time to show Cornell that true MIT spirit. Representing the Institute this week is Ellie Arroway from the movie Contact. We can do this! But only if you vote.

To vote, simply answer the following question:

Which person, if real, has the potential to offer the greatest contribution(s) to society?

Cast your vote three ways:

  • Submit your answer in the comments of this post
  • Respond via the Cornell or MIT Facebook pages
  • Tweet using the hashtag #MITCU

Need some inspiration? Learn more about Natalie Keener and Ellie Arroway.

Representatives from the Cornell and MIT Alumni Associations will be looking for posts that are clever, witty, absurd, and downright ridiculous. The more entertaining we find your comment to be, the more likely it will tip the scale in favor of your alma mater. Voting ends each Friday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Ellie of course... how could anything Keener do compare to making first contact with aliens? (I'm not biased against Cornell either - my father was a proud Cornell alum!)

Seriously? Keener's biggest contribution was merely learning a valuable lesson about life and people ONLY AFTER first wrecking a number of lives. Arroway, besides the sheer volume of her scientific contributions, contributed to building critical bridges: between alien and human civilizations, as well as between atheist, agnostic, and religious peoples. (Plus, I think McConaughey would probably take Clooney in a clean, fair fight.)
