MIT Alumni Association Volunteer Orientation
New volunteers—or volunteers in need of a refresher—will receive an overview of all things volunteering for the MIT Alumni Association. Learn about the mission of the MIT Alumni Association, its organizational structure, quick facts about MIT, and the many opportunities available to MIT volunteers.

ALC Plenary: Institute and Alumni Association Update
MIT Alumni Association President Annalisa L. Weigel ’94, ’95, SM ’00, PhD ’02 and Association CEO Whitney T. Espich discussed the Alumni Association’s exciting new plans, programs, and initiatives in the year ahead, then introduced an Institute update from Provost Marty Schmidt SM ’83, PhD ’88.

Last year’s admissions cycle was unlike any other at MIT: a record number of applicants, record yield, remote campus tours, virtual information sessions, suspended test scores, and more. While many in the MIT community have been away from campus since spring 2020, MIT’s campus has transformed. Join MIT’s Richard Amster, director of campus construction at MIT, for a short tour of today’s campus.
A Green Campus for Climate Innovations
MIT set a new standard for climate leadership with the 2021 rollout of its Climate Action Plan for the Decade. Professor John Fernández, director of the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative, provided a tour of major new research and engagement initiatives on campus, including the MIT Climate and Sustainability Consortium, the Climate Grand Challenges, and the Natural Climate Solutions Program.
MIT Innovation Headquarters (iHQ): Alumni Venture Studio
Learn about MIT’s new Innovation Headquarters (iHQ), where the Institute’s vibrant innovation and entrepreneurial community is now housed in 25,000 square feet of new space located in Kendall Square. Tim Miano, the MIT iHQ director, discussed the new Alumni Venture Studio (AVS), which serves as a physical anchor and a programmatic umbrella to current and proposed programs that support the MIT alumni venture community.
One Community Together in Service
MIT President L. Rafael Reif discussed the importance of service in our community; Association Past President R. Erich Caulfield SM ’01, PhD ‘06 introduced the new MIT Alumni Better World Service Initiative; and current students affiliated with the Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center explored the service work they are doing to help make a better world.

The MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative (ESI) works with companies, communities, and local governments to advance concrete sustainability goals with its Rapid Response Group of student researchers and analysts.
