In the Boston area, we call it HUBweek, an intellectual festival and conference showcasing art, science, and technology, offering 40 events in Boston and Cambridge, and running October 3-10. Events range from a Fenway Forum on What’s the Right Thing to Do led by Harvard’s legendary political philosopher Michael Sandel to a Globedocs Film Festival and ILLUMINUS, a nighttime contemporary art festival in Lansdowne Street.

MIT, the Boston Globe, Harvard, and Mass General Hospital founded this civic collaboration and united more than 150 companies, nonprofits, and universities to celebrate innovation, creative arts, and culture. And you are invited to take part.

MIT’s particular corner of HUBweek is SOLVE, a cross-disciplinary leadership program set for October 5-8. By convening influential thinkers and activists, SOLVE seeks to create collaborations that will address global issues such as healthcare, education, food and water, and energy. Sign up for the inaugural meeting Monday, October 5, to take part in conversations on the four key ideas: Make, Learn, Fuel, and Cure.

“We will do more than talk about the greatest problems facing our world," says MIT President L. Rafael Reif. "We will set the course to solve them.”

In addition to sessions with speakers, there will be many areas designed to draw participants and stimulate fresh thinking. At Kendall Square, you will find the SOLVE Pavilion; and open lobbies at the Koch Institute, Stata, and the Media Lab.  The Alumni Association will hold a gathering in Stata on October 8 for alumni working in the Kendall Square area and a HUBweek social for young alumni and graduate students on October 4 in the Fenway area. Learn more and join in.
