MIT was named the best graduate engineering school by US News & World Report for the 31st consecutive year, according to the publication’s 2020 ranking of best graduate schools. The Institute was ranked first in 23 additional US News categories, and 43 other MIT schools, departments, and disciplines finished in the top 10.

The MIT School of Engineering has held the top spot since US News first released its graduate rankings in 1990. (The publication releases its corresponding rankings for undergraduate programs in the fall.)

This year, six other graduate disciplines within engineering were also ranked first.

US News & World Report cited MIT’s Sloan of School of Management as the third-ranked graduate business program, a move up from fifth place in 2019, and named two Sloan disciplines as best in field.

The Institute was ranked first in 15 other graduate programs of study as well, including in the areas of biology, chemistry, economics, and physics.

The US News rankings come a few weeks after the annual university rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which listed MIT as number one in 11 subjects and ranked it second in six more. Learn more at MIT News.

The Institute was also recently named the top college for free online courses by collegeconsensus.com and flagged as a top-10 “dream college” in the Princeton Review’s annual survey of nearly 12,000 prospective students and parents.
