Hosting an MIT student extern is a rewarding way to give back to MIT, impact a student's life, and access top talent for your company. The MIT Student/Alumni Externship Program pairs the best and brightest graduate and undergraduate students with alumni in their companies for mutually enriching work experiences over Independent Activities Period (IAP), January 9 to February 3, 2012.

Host an extern for one, two, or all four weeks of IAP. Alumni from a wide spectrum of professional fields are needed. To become an externship sponsor, submit an online application by September 20, 2011.

Last year's externs enjoyed an eclectic array of experiences. Here are just some of their blog posts from the trenches.

—A grad student scientist got a taste of the financial industry as a strategist at Goldman Sachs.

—A sophomore studying electrical engineering and computer science worked his dream job as a game designer for a start-up.

—A techie helped transform a farm into a vineyard in France.

—A mechanical engineering grad student learned what it was like to be an entrepreneur in Beijing.

—An architecture major had his first job experience ever—all the free coffee he could drink!—at a brand-strategy agency in New York.

And more. Read all the blog posts.
