Join the MIT Club of New York for a guided bird walk in Central Park on World Migratory Bird Day! The spring migration is a prime time of urban birding in New York City and the open oasis of Central Park attracts myriad migrant visitors to join its resident birds. Explore the park and discover its wildlife with your fellow alums and naturalist Gabriel Willow.

The walk will last two hours. Participants should bring their own binoculars (highly recommended). Each alum is welcome to register up to three guests; children who can manage the walk are welcome.

Note: Two walks will be offered on May 13: an early walk starting at 8am and a late walk at 11am. Please double check to confirm for which one you are registering. Alums are welcome to register for both walks individually.

Since 2009, Michael Schlein has served as President and CEO of Accion, a global nonprofit committed to creating a fair and inclusive economy, with a trailblazing legacy in microfinance and fintech impact investing. Prior to joining Accion in 2009, Michael held several roles at Citigroup, including President of Citigroup’s International Franchise Management. He also served as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and in New York’s City Hall. Michael has graduate and undergraduate degrees from MIT, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

We hope to see you at our annual meeting on May 11, 2023, from 6 to 8pm EDT, featuring a talk by Professor Anna Frebel on the formation of the heaviest chemical elements in the periodic table during the first hour (open to all), followed by the annual MIT Club of Boston meeting (open to MIT COB members).

Prof. Frebel is an astronomer and full professor of physics at MIT, and the head of the astrophysics division. She is a world leading expert in the search for and analysis of 12-13 billion year old stars.  During 2020/21, she was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg (Institute for Advanced Study) in Berlin, Germany. Prof. Frebel is an external member of the Goettingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities since 2022, and was named Fellow of the American Physical Society in 2023.

After Professor Frebel’s talk, MIT COB members will hear a report from Bernard Ho, our president; an update on the status of the Club’s Biosummit planned for 2024, an update on the Club’s annual scholarship, and recognition of club volunteers.
