100 Million Served--See OCW's 2010 Stats

MIT OpenCourseWare, founded in 2001 to provide free, open access to core academic content that now includes more than 2,300 Institute courses, has reached 100  million users in the past decade.

And the 2010 annual numbers look good too:

• 17.5 million visits
• 9.6 million visitors
• 1.82 visits per visitor
• 98.3 million page views (a little lower than 2009)
• 5.63 page views per visit
• 1.9 million zip files downloaded
• 11.8 million files downloaded from iTunes U
• 7.3 million videos viewed on YouTube
• 275,000 visits from the MIT community
• 446,000 visits referred by StumbleUpon, 172,000 by Reddit, 112,000 by Wikipedia, 95,000 by YouTube, and 78,000 by Facebook
• 38% of visits used Firefox, 33% used IE, 15% used Chrome, and 10% used Safari

In keeping with the OCW mission to bring MIT’s intellectual riches to educators, students, and self learners everywhere, the group just launched OCW Scholars courses. Designed for independent learners, the courses are substantially more complete than typical OCW courses and include new custom-created content.OCW just published the first five OCW Scholar courses—and they would like your feedback—with 15 more to come in the next few years.

Users of OCW Scholar courses will be able to interact with each other, working collaboratively on assignments and answering questions through a new partnership with OpenStudy.
