The Top 13 Tweets of ALC 2013

The 2013 Alumni Leadership Conference, which took place Sept. 27-28, featured alumni from more than 40 different graduating class years who returned to campus to reconnect with MIT. In addition to the in-person activities that the conference offered, attendees also took the discussion online.

Throughout the two-day conference, more than 100 different Twitter and Instagram users tweeted or retweeted more than 400 messages and nearly 60 photos using the hashtag #mitalc.  Attendees could view a custom ALC Twitter feed throughout the conference, which showcased ALC-related ideas, questions, and images.

In honor of the 100-plus online orators, Slice of MIT presents the top 13 tweets of ALC 2013.

When MIT Campaign Director Rob Scott mentioned the "humility" of MIT alumni (and their spouses' response), one alumnus was quick to jump to the defensive.

The Black Alumni/ae of MIT (BAMIT), who received a Great Dome Award at the Leadership Awards Celebration, honored Associate Provost for Faculty Equity Wesley Harris for his contributions and and advocacy on behalf of MIT students.

Alumni who could not attend the conference used the #mitalc hashtag to follow along and participate online.The conference's opening keynote, TIMtalks (Think. Inspire. Motivate.), was based on the popular TED Talks model. The keynote featured current students sharing innovative ideas, successes, and failures at MIT.

ALC featured more than 30 roundtables, lectures, seminars, and events, including a networking lunch with MIT's Public Service Center, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

On day two of the conference, MIT President L. Rafael Reif discussed his vision for MIT's future, which will focus on continuing research on the world’s most-pressing issues, expanding the capacity to innovate, and using digital learning to reinvent the college experience.

The Leadership Awards Dinner, which annually closes ALC, honored the Institute's most dedicated alumni, including Bronze Beaver Award recipient Cordelia M. Price ’78, SM ’82, at a ceremony featuring MIT alumni and their family.
