Killian Court

Killian Court was constructed in 1916 at MIT. Formerly the Great Court, it was renamed in 1974 to honor the Institute’s 10th president, alumnus James Rhyne Killian Jr. ’26. It was designed by another alum, William Welles Bosworth, Class of 1889. At one end of the grass court sits the Great Dome, which is flanked by other buildings in the “Main Group.” It commands spectacular views of the Charles River and the Boston skyline. Today, MIT’s annual Commencement ceremony is hosted on Killian Court and it’s a favorite location for visitor photographs and student Frisbee games.
