- Tim turns 100. MIT’s longtime mascot, Tim the Beaver, turns 100 in January. Tim crouched down for a tell-all interview and discussed his first days as mascot, the origins of his name, and his modified MIT motto.
- The JFK/MIT connection. On the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s death, Slice reflects on the president's connection to MIT, including his congratulatory message to MIT on its centennial in 1961.
- Capturing city stories. In the MIT course In this Building: Multimedia and Place-based Storytelling, architecture and urban planning students uncover the personal side of everyday Boston storefronts and homes.
- Katy's cotton candy cloud. Civil engineer-turned theatrical set wizard Daniel Perez ’10 engineered the “flying cotton candy cloud rigging system” during pop icon Katy Perry's 2011 California Dreams tour shows.
- Providing schools with 3D printing. The alum-founded company Valence Robotics rents out 3D printers to elementary and high schools, hoping to encourage younger students to become creative inventors.
