Event Details

Nine years ago several of us who are proud wearers of the MIT red jacket thought that it would be good fun to get together now and then to celebrate our seniority and “chew the fat.”  Since then a number of us have been getting together for lunch every September, and enjoying it very much.

To that end, you are invited to a lunch to be held at the Cleveland Skating Club on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 11:30 to whenever.  The skating club is located at 2500 Kemper Road, Cleveland, OH 44120.  If you have a red jacket, please consider wearing it, and if you do not have one, can’t find it, can’t fit into it, or whatever, come anyway!  It doesn’t matter whether you were an undergraduate student, a graduate student, or both at MIT.  We look forward to welcoming the class of 1969, our newest “red coats!”

There are about 115 undergraduates and 35 grad students from the classes of 1969 and earlier on the NE Ohio alumni/ae list.  How great it would be to see you all!  If you need transportation, let me know and I will see if it can be arranged.

Of course, we need to know, by September 23, who is coming so we can give a head count to the club.  We’ll have a cash bar, and then a served lunch if we have less than 20, or a buffet if 20 or more. The cost of the lunch is $30 for MIT NE Ohio club members, $35 for non-members.

Register using the club website. Or you can reply to me by phone (216-536-5586), email nsbartlett@alum.mit.edu or US mail.  Please also contact me if you have questions or comments.

Looking forward to seeing you on the 25th!

Regards,

Noel Bartlett ’60 MA

P.S.  If you use the website registration and it shows you a price of $35, then you are not currently a club member.  The membership year is July 1 to June 30, so your membership may have expired.  Go to the club website and click on Membership, then on Pay Your Dues, before registering for the luncheon.  Then you will see the $30 rate when you register.

The Technical Book Club is currently reading "Naive Lie Theory" by John Stillwell from Springer's Undergraduate Texts in Mathematics series. We will discuss chapter 8 (topology) and maybe 9 (simply connected Lie groups) of Naive Lie Theory by John Stillwell. We will get close enough to the end in August, so the choosing of the next book will almost certainly happen at the September meeting.
