An MIT Alumni Association Publication

MIT volunteers are leaders among their peers and fellow alumni. Committed volunteers are crucial for planning class reunions, raising scholarship funds, organizing group events, recruiting prospective students, and serving as the alumni voice within the MIT community.

The 2012 Alumni Leadership Conference, which will be held on campus Sept. 21-22, is the perfect opportunity for MIT volunteers to become even more effective and engaged Institute ambassadors.

Registration is now open for ALC 2012 and runs through September 14.

In addition to providing the knowledge and toolkit to advocate effectively for the Institute, the conference will coincide with the inauguration of L. Rafael Reif as MIT’s 17th president. Attendees will be among the first to hear President Reif’s vision of the future of MIT and can witness the inaugural ceremony in a section reserved specifically for ALC.

Apart from the inauguration, the ALC schedule is full of sessions and panels that will highlight MIT’s new initiatives and innovations, plus discussions specifically tailored towards club and group leaders, educational counselors, and fundraisers, including:

  • The Changing Face of Education at MIT (Moderated by MIT Chancellor Eric Grimson PhD '80): Learn about new online educational programs–like MITx and edX–and other innovative initiatives taking place at the Institute.
  • Encompass Platform from iModules Overview: Receive an overview of Encompass, the Alumni Association’s new online platform, that will cover the steps that groups need to take to successfully migrate, launch, and thrive.
  • Investing in MIT Students: Hear about programs that directly impact the way students approach their personal and professional development, featuring the Alan ’73 and Terri Spoon Community Catalyst Leadership Program, the Institute Career Assistance Network, and more.
  • Pathways of Engagement at MIT: Listen to engaged alumni share their stories of how they became involved as MIT volunteers.
  • Honor Fellow Alumni: Celebrate this year's MIT volunteer leadership award recipients.
Peruse the full schedule for all conference offerings and register today. Hotel accommodations have been reserved for ALC attendees but–because the conference coincides with President Reif’s inauguration–rooms will fill up fast. And don’t forget to follow us on our ALC-specific social media outlets on Facebook, Twitter (hashtag: #mitalc), and LinkedIn.
