More than 400 alumni and volunteers have already registered for this year’s ALC, which takes place Sept. 27-28. Only one day remains to register online. After preregistration closes on Friday, Sept. 20, attendees must register for the conference on site.
Last year’s conference coincided with the inauguration of MIT President L. Rafael Reif. This year, President Reif will discuss his vision for MIT’s road ahead, its opportunities for changes and improvement, and share what he has learned during the first year of his presidency.
One addition to this year’s schedule is the opening conference keynote TIMtalks (Think. Inspire. Motivate.). Based on the popular TEDtalks model, current MIT students will share their inspiring personal experiences at the Institute and their successes, failures, and innovative ideas.
This year’s schedule includes more than 30 programs, sessions, and help centers; 11 networking luncheons, dinners, and socials; three keynotes; and one movie screening:
- Epic Event Exploration (E3): From Ideas to Execution: Learn about new approaches to fresh event strategies that engage alumni and increase participation, share tools and resources that can help define success.
- Enabling MIT’s Future—the Importance of Unrestricted Giving: Israel Ruiz SM ’01, the Institute’s executive vice president and treasurer, will discuss the changing landscape of MIT’s finances and touch on topics including tuition pricing, new building needs, and constrained federal funding.
- In the Family movie screening: Watch a director’s cut version of In the Family, a 2011 movie produced and directed by Patrick Wang ’98, who also stars.
- Post, Like, Tweet, or Connect? Social Media Strategy: Learn why volunteer clubs and groups should embrace the community of more than one billion Facebook users and 500 million Twitter followers.
- Leadership Awards Celebration: Celebrate the outstanding volunteers honored by the Alumni Association at Walker Memorial on Saturday evening.
Visit the ALC site to register and view more information on the conference, including the full schedule, hotel information, and an up-to-date list of volunteers who have already registered.
In addition to the in-person interaction between volunteers, attendees can also participate in the ALC discussion using social media. Share your ideas and post questions on the ALC-specific Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts, and view ALC photos on the Alumni Association’s new Instagram page.
On Twitter, use the hashtag #mitalc to participate in live-tweeting throughout the conference.
