Join us for a ~4.5 mile hike in the West part of the Middlesex FELLS Reservation. Located ~10 miles from MIT, the FELLS Reservation is a natural treasure, offering beautiful sceneries and providing an important drinking water supply for many residents north of Boston.
The Fells Reservation spans ~2,200-acres that include a diverse landscape of forest, wetlands, and hills, something all too rare in our urban/suburban landscape. This range of habitat sustains a variety of wildlife including mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds.
Approximate Trail Map
Our trail will loop around the FELLS North Reservoir along wooded areas with a mildly undulating terrain, offering frequent vistas of both North and Middle Reservoirs. We will have a brief lunch break at one of the scenic points, so, please bring a sandwich or snack and drinking water.
The expected start-to-end duration is 2 to 2.5 hours depending on weather and ground-surface conditions. The final trail will be selected closer to the hiking date, adapted to updated hike-day weather conditions and expected trail-surface conditions.
A detailed map of the Middlesex Fells Reservation may be found at:

Cancer treatments kill tumor cells—does it really matter how?
Cells can die or signal injury via several different biological processes or pathways, and research increasingly suggests that the particular mechanism activated by a cancer therapy can significantly affect treatment outcomes.
Join us as Koch Institute researchers explain how they are leveraging specific cell injury and cell death pathways to take out tumors using new approaches to improve immunotherapy response and target aggressive, metastatic cancer cells.

We hope to see you at our annual meeting on May 14, 2025, from 6 to 8pm EST, featuring a talk by Dr. Jeffrey Karp on Becoming the Conscious Architect of Your Life: Igniting Curiosity, Creativity, and Purpose during the first hour (open to all), followed by the annual MIT Club of Boston meeting (open to MIT COB members).
Dr. Jeff Karp is a renowned biomedical engineer, a professor at MIT, Harvard Medical School, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He is the author of LIT: Life Ignition Tools (HarperCollins), a guide to energizing the brain and sparking creativity. He is also a regular contributor to Psychology Today, where he shares insights on personal growth and well-being with a broader audience.
Dr. Karp’s journey—shaped by ADHD and learning differences—has inspired him to empower others to embrace their authentic selves, cultivate awareness, and live with intention.
Dr. Karp’s work extends beyond philosophy into groundbreaking medical innovations. From tissue glue for sealing holes in a beating heart, to smart needles for safer drug delivery, to a nasal spray that neutralizes airborne pathogens, his inventions have revolutionized healthcare. His work has led to over 175 scientific publications, more than 100 patents, and the founding of 13 companies.
Dr. Karp’s philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that science, nature, and spirituality are profoundly interconnected. His talks encourage audiences to embrace curiosity, wonder, and interconnectedness while inspiring action toward lives filled with purpose and fulfillment.
After Dr. Karp’s talk, MIT COB members will hear a report from Diane Rigos, our president; a message from Chairman of the Board, David Provost; an update on the Club’s annual scholarship; and recognition of club volunteers.

Come learn more about and join the Ivy+ Alumni Softball League! Join other interested players from Ivy+ schools and MIT and see if we can field an MIT or mixed-school team!
The Ivy+ Alumni Coed Softball League was founded in the 1980s to provide the opportunity for alumni of all ages and ability, male and female, to meet and network with other Ivy+ alums---this networking event just happens to take place on a softball field! It was decided that a restricted flight ball was to be used, with the goal being for everyone to get a hit and for everyone to have fun! A 4-swing rule was set, teams pitched to themselves with a defensive pitcher standing within 6–8 feet of the offensive pitcher to field the "beginner hits," seven men and three women were to be on the field at all times, and getting together socially after the game was encouraged.
