Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Board of Directors guides the business and affairs of the Association, in partnership with the Association Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") and their staff, operating within the larger framework of stated MIT Policies put forth by the Institute. The CEO works in partnership with the Board of Directors to set the vision and strategy of the Association. 

MIT Corporation and Corporation Visiting Committees

As the Institute’s Board of Trustees, the Corporation and its standing committees have responsibility for reviewing and providing guidance on strategic directions, approving annual budgets, exercising long-term fiduciary responsibility, approving the establishment of new degree programs or courses of study, approving degrees, electing the President (as well as the other Corporation officers), and being available (individually as well as collectively) to advise the President on issues that they may wish to raise with them.

Visiting Committees have had a strong influence on the course of education and research at the Institute for over 120 years. The committees operate as advisory groups to the Corporation and the administration, offering appraisal, advice, and insight on each academic program and on other major activities at the Institute.

Alumni Volunteer Boards and Committees

The Association's goal is to match alumni skills, interests, and expertise with the objectives and needs of each board or committee. The Association strives to ensure that each board or committee is representative of the general alumni body in age, gender, degree type, school, ethnicity, geographic distribution, and range of MIT involvement. 

 

  • Alumni Association Selection Committee

    The Alumni Association Selection Committee selects the Board president and term directors, who represent the entire MIT alumni community. The Board partners with the Alumni Association staff to develop programs, services, and benefits for alumni like you. Every vote in the AASC election contributes toward higher alumni engagement and a voice in the future leadership. BY ELECTION.

  • MIT Annual Giving Board

    The MIT Annual Giving Board serves as an advisory committee that helps foster a culture of giving to MIT. The committee advises on strategic fund-raising matters and provides alumni/ae leadership to support the Institute’s highest priorities.

  • Awards Committee

    The Awards Committee selects alumni/ae, alumni/ae groups, and non-alumni/ae friends for recognition with one of the Association’s top volunteer leadership awards. 

  • Corporation Nominating Committee

    The Association Corporation Nominating Committee (CNC) nominates fifteen (15) alumni/ae nominees to the Corporation and approximately six (6) alumni/ae members to each of the thirty (30) Corporation Visiting Committees. 

  • Graduate Alumni Council

    The Graduate Alumni Council (“GAC”) serves as an advisory group to the Association on matters involving graduate alumni/ae engagement and represents the interests of the graduate alumni/ae community to the Association. GAC is a vital part of launching new programs and initiatives to connect graduate alumni/ae to each other and the Institute.

  • Program Committee

    The committee will review and offer advice on the programs, services, and functions of the MIT Alumni Association and assist with vetting new ideas and modifying or sunsetting legacy programs, working closely with priorities of the President and the CEO.

  • Finance Committee

    The Finance Committee reviews spending and performance against the Association’s annual budget and advises the Board of Directors on spending and budget issues. They also confirm that costs are in alignment with the Association Strategic Plan.

  • Leadership and Talent Pipeline Committee

    The Council helps fulfill the Association’s charge to serve as a gateway to the MIT alumni/ae community and make good on its purpose to provide services and resources that strengthen alumni/ae ties to the Institute and to each other, and helps to identify future alumni/ae volunteer leaders and award winners from the various alumni/ae groups represented.

  • Legislative Advocacy Advisory Committee

    The Legislative Advocacy Advisory Committee facilitates the active relationship between the MIT Washington DC office and the MIT Alumni Association and its alumni interested in legislative advocacy.
