How To: Solveathon

How to Organize Your Own Solvathon

 WHAT IS A SOLVEATHON?

A Solveathon is a high-energy workshop focused on rapid ideation, refinement, and prototyping of solutions to one or more open global challenges. These workshops can be conducted virtually or in-person and provide great opportunities to feature speakers who are championing good work as well as opportunities for individual attendees to connect for meaningful discussions.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE STARTING

  • Do you want to work with the MIT Solve team or are you doing an independent event?

  • Are you interested in solving one issue, or do you want to hold a “Global Challenges” Solveathon about several (maximum 5, recommended) issues?

FIRST STEPS

  • Reach out to a member of the MIT Solve team if you’d like to collaborate with them on this.

  • Reserve a space that allows for several work tables or event different rooms.

  • Build in ample time to solve. Plan for a 1.5 hour event. Go lighter on the speaker portion of the presentation

  • Keep it as a Zoom meeting, if doing virtually through Zoom.
