Username & Password FAQ

Find answers to questions about your account username and password

Username

Your username is your alumni email address without @alum.mit.edu. If you have forgotten your username, you can recover your username and/or password. (For postdocs and Associate Members, your username is your email address.)

When choosing a username, please follow these guidelines:

  • It should be between 2 and 30 characters long.
  • Use only letters, numbers, periods (.), or underscores (_).
  • Do not start or end your username with a period or an underscore. Do not use more than 2 periods or underscores in your username. Do not use periods or underscores next to each other (.. or __) in your username.
  • Do not choose a username that may be offensive to others.

Please also remember the following:

  • Your username is not case sensitive.
  • For alumni users, your username followed by @alum.mit.edu will become your Email For Life (EFL) address. Therefore, you should pick a username that people can easily associate with you and that is simple to remember.

You cannot change your username by yourself. Please send an email to help@alum.mit.edu and Alumni Association staff will change it for you.

Password

You can have your password reset and emailed to you. If you have tried this and still need help, you can submit a request to have your password reset.

When choosing a password, please follow these guidelines:

  • It must be at least eight characters long and must contain some letters and some numbers.
  • It must not contain your first name, last name, or your user name.
  • Please do not use personal information, such as your birthday, social security number, or telephone number as your password.

Please also remember the following:

  • Your password is case sensitive.
  • Your password is one-way encrypted, so even Alumni Association administrators will not be able to see your password.
  • You should change your password if you detect suspicious activities on your Infinite Connection account.

Go to the My Account page and then go the Account Settings section. Your password change will take effect immediately.
