Dr. Charles Wong

Dr. Charles Wong is head of the Chemistry Department at SCCWRP. His research interests include the development of novel methods for quantifying constituents of emerging concern, such as pharmaceuticals, pesticides, per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, and their metabolites and degradates. His research also encompasses elucidation of sources, fate processes, and ecotoxicological consequences of these chemicals through bench- to mesocosm-scale controllable experiments and through case studies.

Prior to joining SCCWRP, he was Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier II) at the University of Winnipeg and Jinan University Chair Professor (China), and had concurrent appointments at the Costa Rica Institute of Technology.

He received his Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota, and his S.M. in civil engineering and S.B. in environmental engineering science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined SCCWRP in 2019.
