Lambda Lunch Update, 6/29/04:

7/1*: NO MEETING

7/6, Bldg 6B, Rm 4B429, 4:00 PM: A.J. Carpousis (Toulouse) "RhlB, an
Escherichia coli DEAD-box protein, facilitates mRNA degradation in vivo"
(Bob Weisberg)

7/8*: Brian Paul (Wisconsin) "DksA: A Critical Component of rRNA Promoter
Regulation" (Sankar Adhya)
google search for 'DksA "Brian Paul"'
Brian Paul, who is studying with Dr. Richard Gourse, has been awarded the 2003 William H. Peterson Predoctoral Fellowship in Bacteriology. Brian entered the PhD program after spending four years at the the Gourse lab, he is studying the effect of the DksA protein in regulation of ribosomal RNA expression in Escherichia coli. Brian has purified an active form of DksA and has evidence that the protein works directly on RNAP-rRNA promoter complexes in vitro. He is also studying the effect of dksA mutants in vivo.
7/15*: Yeong-Jae Seok (Seoul National University) "New regulations involving glucose-specific enzyme II of the Escherichia coli PTS" (Alan Peterkofsky) 7/22*: Review of Microbial Stress Conference 7/29*: Harvey Rubin (Univ. Penn.) "Starting to understand the molecular mechanism of the stringent response in Mycobacterium tuberculosis" (Mike Cashel) 8/19*: David Grainger (Bob Martin) *Regular lambda lunch at 11:00 AM in Bldg 37, Rm 6107/6041. To schedule seminars, contact Susan Gottesman (susang@helix.nih.gov) or Bob Weisberg (rweisberg@nih.gov). To meet with an outside speaker, contact the person whose name is in parentheses. You can join the mailing list in the following ways. If you're at NIH, send the following message from the computer where you usually receive mail to LISTSERV@LIST.NIH.GOV: SUBSCRIBE LAMBDA_LUNCH-L your name. Replace "your name" by your first and last names; or go to http://list.nih.gov/, browse the lists to find Lambda_Lunch-L, and follow the instructions to join.
