Each year, the Alumni Association celebrates the valuable contributions that volunteers make to the Institute and alumni. This includes alumni who have made exceptional efforts for a specific group or initiative as well those who have made volunteering for MIT a central part of their lives. Their commitment sets a standard for service and provides inspiration to other alumni volunteers.

The Association honors these volunteers by including them in the Honor Roll of Service and by bestowing major awards in six categories.

Volunteer Honor Roll of service

The Volunteer Honor Roll of Service (VHRS) recognizes alumni, parents, widows, spouses, faculty, or current students for extraordinary individual performance in volunteer work completed during the year. Past honorees redesigned club Web sites, revamped a financial record-keeping system, helped establish an award program for teachers, and more. See who made the Honor Roll or nominate a volunteer.

Volunteer awards

The Alumni Association's volunteer awards recognize outstanding accomplishment and service to the Alumni Association and MIT. Awards include the Bronze Beaver Award, the Henry B. Kane '24 Award, the Harold E. Lobdell '17 Distinguished Service Award, the George B. Morgan '20 Award, the Presidential Citation, and Honorary Membership in the Alumni Association. Learn more about the volunteer awards, see the most recent recipients, and find out how you can participate in the awards nominations process.
