The Pacific coasts of Panama and Costa Rica are surely among the world’s most beautiful and diverse: tropical rain forest, mountains, and dozens of idyllic, offshore islands. Explore the coastal regions of these neighboring countries for an intriguing blend of nature plus a transit of the legendary Panama Canal. Walk rain forest trails, home to capuchin and howler monkeys, three-toed sloths, iguanas and hummingbirds. Snorkel at Panama’s famed Isla Coiba. Kayak along wildlife-rich coastlines. Along the way, a team of Naturalists share their expertise. By special arrangement, guides from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, at Barro Colorado Nature Monument in Lake Gatun, accompany the group through the tropical forest that so challenged the builders of the Canal.
