Join fellow alumni for an extraordinary journey by private aircraft that spotlights the spectacular and incredibly diverse wonders of New Zealand.

Flying aboard an exquisitely restored twin-engine Convair CV-580 turboprop airliner, travel directly to each new place of interest, enjoying unparalleled flightseeing along the way and arriving refreshed and ready for the next adventure.

Leading our lecture series is MIT Professor R. John Hansman SM ’80, PhD ’82. John’s talks will focus on aviation history, his research work in cockpit systems, and air traffic control, which will be accompanied by a visit to the Christchurch Air Traffic Control center; this center controls both New Zealand airspace and much of the South Pacific. Joining John on this program are faculty leaders from Harvard Joyce Chaplin, professor of early American history and David Armitage, professor of history.

Enjoy a private cruise of the Marlborough Sounds, a wonderland of coves and inlets. Explore the Whakarewarewa geothermal valley at Rotorua, with its surreal landscape of spouting geysers and colorful mud pools. View the awe-inspiring beauty of Milford Sound, learn about the rich and colorful traditions of the Maori culture, and explore Queenstown, treasured for its magnificent scenery and outdoor adventure opportunities. Throughout the program local guides will provide an insider’s view of this delightful and hospitable country.
