Explore the translucent waters of the Indian Ocean which bathe the shores of the 115 tiny granitic and coralline islands that make up the Seychelles.
On this extraordinary voyage MIT travelers with interests in photography, nature, birding, snorkeling, and diving will find themselves enraptured by the astonishing richness of the terrestrial and marine environments. Learn more and register (PDF).
- Spend two days exploring the Aldabra Atoll, one of the largest atolls in the world and host to the rare flightless Aldabra white-throated rail and the giant Indian Ocean tortoise.
- Sail to the World Heritage Site of Praslin Island, known for its 4,000 coco-de-mer plams and black parrots. Discover La Digue, a postcard perfect island of pink granite boulders and white sugar-sand beaches.
- Hike through dense forests inhabited by fabulous native bird and wildlife species.
- Snorkel and dive among the Seychelles' many reefs that contain 150 coral species and some 850 species of rainbow-hued fish.
Spend 11 nights on the elegant, sleek Le Ponant with her 16,140 square feet of sails will gracefully carry us to several of the Seychelles' divine edens.
Leading the lecture series is MIT Professor of Atmospheric Science Dr. Kerry Emanuel '76, PhD '78. Dr. Emanuel is joined on this voyage by a team of expert leaders and lecturers who will enhance our understanding of this unique archipelago.
