On Crete, witness the influence of the island's Venetian and Turkish past on present-day life. Explore Rethymnon, including the nearby Palace of Knossos, which the myths describe as the home of King Minos and the Minotaur. Enjoy a lively Greek night, which includes musical and dance performances. Visit Heraklion, the island's capital and center of the Minoan civilization, and Chania, which has a lovely Old Town. Next, Travel by hydrofoil to the island of Santorini. Visit the Akrotiri Museum, which showcases the excavation of a Bronze-Age village and cruise to the caldera islet of Thirassia. In Athens, explore the National Archaeological Museum, the Acropolis, and the vibrant Plaka district. Our lecture series will be led by MIT Professor of Literature Alvin Kibel.
