Student Externship Application

Streamline the Process with These Tips

Please read all the externship program Web pages before applying and review the following information carefully:

Who is eligible?

Undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders)

Graduates students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders)-graduate students should receive their advisors' permission to participate in the program, if appropriate.

Second-year international undergraduate and graduates (i.e. international students who have studied in the U.S. for at least one full academic year and qualify for Optional Practical Training)-all international students must meet with their ISO advisor BEFORE submitting their applications.

Students must have an Infinite Connection account to apply. It's free to MIT students.

Review the listings

Externship opportunities are posted for student review beginning September 21 on this site. Students can apply for up to three different externship opportunities. Note: if the externship offers multiple slots, only apply once.

Prepare to apply and don't procrastinate

Students can login with their Infinite Connection account to review the offerings and apply online on September 21, 2011. Consider asking the Careers Office to review your cover letter and resume before you submit your application.

Submissions

Students will login with their Infinite Connection account to submit one PDF document (sorry, no MS Word or text versions) for each externship. This PDF will contain both your cover letter and resume.

  • Sponsors will access the applications directly on the online database.
  • Once submitted, you may not change or edit your applications.

Students are notified of their student-sponsor match by an email from the Alumni Association during the week of November 14. A second matching round is scheduled the week of November 21. Matched students will then submit a completed waiver (PDF) and attend a required orientation meeting in early December.

The application submission process closed at noon on October 12th, 2011.
