Infinite Connection Privacy and Usage
The MIT Alumni Association is committed to supporting the privacy of MIT alumni and current MIT students who use this site by requiring all users to agree to this privacy and usage policy:
- This site has a secure login area where alumni, current students, associate members of the Association, parents of MIT students, MIT Enterprise Forum members, and friends of the Association who register and agree to this privacy and usage policy may connect with one another. Services in this area include the Online Alumni Directory, Email Forwarding for Life, Institute Career Assistance Network, Job Posting Board, Mailing Lists, Discussion Network, and other tools and resources. Not all services are available to all categories of registered users.
- Current MIT students and associate members of the Association have limited access to this site; they may access the Online Alumni Directory, Discussion Network, and the Institute Career Assistance Network only. Parents of MIT students, MIT Enterprise Forum members, and friends of the Association have limited access to this site; they may access the Discussion Network and mailing lists only. Certain MIT personnel may have access to any information on this site for MIT purposes.
- In password protected areas that are accessible to MIT alumni, current students, and associate members of the Association who register, as well as to certain MIT personnel, this site may contain the following types of information about MIT alumni: name; MIT course, degree and degree year; contact information including telephone number and email addresses; professional history; MIT activities as a student and as an alumnus; living group while at MIT; and photographs of alumni.
- Information in the Online Alumni Directory (which includes name, contact information, MIT course, degree, and degree year) is available to other alumni and associate members of the Association who have access to the site. However, alumni and associate members of the Association can choose to suppress publication of their information on a field-by-field basis, with limited exceptions. Also, alumni and associate members of the Association can choose to have their information unavailable to students. While the Online Alumni Directory allows alumni to update their biographical information online, information can also be updated by contacting the Alumni Records Office at mitalum@mit.edu.
- Infinite Connection and Email Forwarding for Life services are provided by the MIT Alumni Association to facilitate communication among members of the MIT community. Certain uses of these services and of other services provided through this site or any of the information obtained through this site are inconsistent with the purposes of this site, constitute a violation of this policy and are prohibited. Such prohibited uses include but are not limited to (a) activities that are illegal (e.g. are fraudulent or violate copyright or other laws); (b) use that inaccurately implies endorsement, approval, or sponsorship by MIT or the MIT Alumni Association (or any individual employee or officer of the Institute or the Association); (c) use that can be confused with official communications of MIT or the MIT Alumni Association (or any individual employee or officer of the Institute or the Association); (d) use that can be confused with official communications of MIT Clubs or their officers; (e) use that violates MIT or MIT Alumni Association policies and procedures (you may not use information about MIT alumni for non-MIT purposes or for use by organizations not affiliated with MIT and may not use this information in conjunction with any commercial purpose(s).); and (f) mass mailings, faxes or emails (sometimes known as spamming). The MIT Alumni Association may deny further access to Email Forwarding for Life, other services, and all or any portion of this website, including the Infinite Connection services, to anyone who violates this policy.
