Harbo Jensen PhD '74

Association President Travels the World

Harbo Jensen PhD '74 (right) and Mohammed Bakr '71 Harbo Jensen PhD '74, the 2007-08 MIT Alumni Association president, began his year in office by visiting alumni in Europe, South Asia, and the Middle East. He attended the annual meeting of the MIT Club of Ireland, met with alumni in Mumbai, India, and attended two dinner events hosted by the MIT Club of Saudi Arabia. At each Saudi Arabia meeting, in Riyadh and Dhahran, Jensen gave the alumni a quiz to see how well they remembered their MIT coursework (see T-shirt in photo below). Of course, all attendees passed the humorous quiz with an A+! At each venue, Jensen discussed current MIT priorities such as the MIT Energy Initiative and combining MIT's traditional strengths in engineering with new opportunities in biology. Jensen said he found enthusiasm and lively discussions at each gathering. "The alumni I have met have passion and respect for MIT and it is a real pleasure to be able to share the MIT spirit," Jensen says.
