Alumnus Bikes Across America to 35th Reunion
Before and after: Bill Reenstra '72 takes a break in a canyon east of Palm Springs, CA, on day two of his cross-country ride (left) and poses on campus after 35 days and some 4,000 miles.
Bill Reenstra '72 took the long way to Cambridge for Tech Reunions 2007. Read about his journey biking from California to campus in 35 days for his 35th reunion on his blog.
Why the journey? As he explains on his blog, riding across America fulfills a personal cycling goal and is now possible given the free time his retirement affords and his good health.
Reenstra, a serious bike rider for more than 25 years, started his journey in Berkeley, CA, then rode to Los Angeles to join a cross-country biking tour. All told, he rode about 4,000 miles. Members of the MIT Cycling Team and Club welcomed Reenstra as he arrived on campus then later rode with him to Lexington.
