Childcare/Kid Tech

Does MIT provide any child care services?

MIT offers a youth program, Kid Tech, for children ages 6-12. Babysitting services will also be available through "Parents in a Pinch," a local childcare provider. More information will be available in March.

Commencement

Will I be able to go to Commencement?

Alumni in the 50th reunion class can march in Commencement and bring one guest, who will be seated separately. Please visit the Commencement page for more details.

Members of the 25th reunion class may request to attend Commencement, although the class does not march and extra tickets for guests are not available. All other alumni and guests can watch the proceedings by video broadcast on campus.

Connect with Classmates

How can I locate a classmate?

You can use the Online Alumni Directory. While you're logged in, you can check and update your own personal information as well.

Dorm Rooms

What can I expect during my stay in a dormitory?

-Dormitory housing consists of a twin bed (single room) or two twin beds (double room). Towels, sheets, one blanket, and pillow are provided. Please supply anything else you might need (alarm clock, washcloth, hair dryer, extra hangers, a fan, etc.) yourself.

-In most dorms, bathrooms are co-ed (there are no private bathrooms). Bring a bathrobe and slippers!

 -Coin-operated laundry facilities are available.

 -Dormitories are not air-conditioned.

-Dorm rooms, dormitory common areas, and other locations on campus have wireless access that can be used by alumni. Learn more at http://ist.mit.edu/services/network/dhcp.

-A dorm desk captain will be available at your assigned dorm until midnight to check you into your room. After midnight, dorms are locked. If you will be arriving after midnight but before reunion registration opens, go to your assigned dormitory, call 617-253-1500 (3-1500 on the campus phone), and ask the operator to page Unit 12 to send them to your dorm. Campus Security will assist you with dorm access. If possible, please notify the Alumni Association in advance at 617-253-8824 if you will be arriving after midnight.

-While we do our absolute best to accommodate specific room requests, dorm rooms are assigned by the House Managers just one or two days before Tech Reunions. It is not until this time that they know which rooms are available in a dorm.

-Seniors (our newest alumni) will be moving out of their rooms reunion weekend.

Are children allowed to stay in dormitories?

Children under the age of six are NOT allowed to stay in the MIT dormitories.

Can I stay in the dorm I lived in when I was a student?

Baker House is reserved for the 50th reunion class during reunions, and McCormick Hall is reserved for alumni who are past their 50th reunion. However, if you would like to stay in another dorm on campus you can request it on your registration form and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Will I be able to get into the dorm if I arrive late?

If you are staying in a dorm and arrive on campus after registration closes, please proceed directly to the dorm listed on your confirmation. There will be a desk attendant at the dorm to assist you. If arriving after midnight, call 617-253-1500 (3-1500 on a campus phone), and ask the operator to page Unit 12. Campus security will help you with access.

Reunion Giving

Class-sponsored projects are a vital source of support for the core needs of the Institute. While you are encouraged to consider supporting your class-sponsored scholarship, UROP fund, professorship, etc., gifts to any designation count towards the reunion gift. Alumni contributions support an extremely diverse range of programs and projects, from athletics to student life to graduate fellowship to building renovation projects.
