Class of 2010 Excels—from Rifle Champion to Water Quality Researcher

The 1,005-strong Class of 2010 includes a singer-songwriter with an indie hit, a researcher whose work on airplane water quality as been published in 100 media stories, a national rifle champion, and a science fair star researching neutrino mass.

    The MIT Energy Forum showcased leading faculty research and the recommendations of the Energy Research Council, which identified opportunities to use technology and policy to transform energy systems and develop new approaches to meet the needs of a rapidly developing world.     Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman CH '65 Ethanol made from plants could provide 25 percent of the motor fuel used in the U.S. by 2012, Samuel Bodman CH '65 told an MIT audience, but that will require a massive effort.

Tech Day Features President Hockfield and Faculty Discussing MIT's Impact

Alumni are invited to take a sip of the fire hose on Saturday morning, June 10, at Technology Day. Four faculty will illustrate how "MIT Tackles Global Challenges" beginning at 9 a.m. Speakers include Woodie C. Flowers ME '73, who will discuss training engineers for innovation, and Esther Duflo EC '99, co-founder of the MIT Poverty Action Lab, who will describe her work evaluating key policy questions scientifically.

Graduate Alumni Convene on Campus

The Graduate Alumni Convocation and Reunion, held on campus April 21-22, brought together some 280 graduate MIT alumni from 13 countries for a weekend of reconnecting with the Institute, faculty, and former classmates plus building new ties to fellow alumni.

MIT Travel: Chile & the Magellan Project, Jan. 14-25

Go to the north of Chile for a private tour of the amazing telescopes of the Magellan Project at Las Campanas Observatory. Also explore the Atacama Desert, situated in the arid far north, to see extraordinary landscapes: volcanoes, geysers, evaporated salt lakes, and hot springs. Dr. Edmund Bertschinger, MIT professor of physics and division head of astrophysics, leads the program.


Donors Needed to Reach Alumni Fund Goal

With five weeks left in FY2006, the Alumni Fund has achieved 85 percent of the donor goal and 89 percent of the dollar goal. As of May 21, $31.2 million has been raised thanks to the generosity of 27,936 alumni and 3,489 parents and friends. Please help reach the goals! Consider making your annual gift today. New Midcareer Program Offers Alumni 25 Percent Discount

The MIT Midcareer Acceleration Program, which provides education and new skills to help talented professionals relaunch careers in science and technology, is offering MIT alumni a 25 percent discount. The ten-month, part-time program includes an August orientation, a fall semester course, and an internship or research project. Learn more on the MAP Web site.
