Class Update
Campus Preview Weekend, a sure sign of spring in Cambridge, brought more than 850 prefrosh to MIT April 6-9 to experience the Institute firsthand. MIT rolled out the red carpet for these impressive students with more than 600 events and opportunities to visit classes. Gaining admission to MIT, never a small feat, continues to be ever more challenging, and I thought you'd like to know some statistics about the admitted Class of 2010. Applications, which totaled 11,373, were up seven percent over last year, and acceptances totaled 1,474. For those who haven't yet done the math, one out of every eight applicants is admitted. Last year, 67 percent of those admitted chose to enroll at MIT. This year, the Admissions Office anticipates a 68 percent yield rate to create a class of 1,005 students. The admitted class is 48 percent female and seven percent international. Students demonstrated high levels of initiative, resilience, and leadership: 75 percent are founders, presidents, or captains of clubs and groups. Many thanks to the volunteers whose dedication to the Institute helps bring the brightest minds to MIT. Sincerely, Association Talking PointsNew National Selection Committee Members ElectedCongratulations to the new members of the National Selection Committee (NSC): Reginald Van Lee '79, Robert E.
