The email that you sent to someone at an @alum.mit.edu address was identified as spam (unsolicited email). Therefore, it was rejected, and will not be received by its intended recipient. The alum.mit.edu server uses a product called "SpamAssassin" to evaluate all incoming email. Although every effort is made to ensure that legitimate emails are not falsely identified as spam, there may be occasions when legitimate email is rejected.
Overall, "SpamAssassin" works very well. By far, most of the email rejected as spam really is spam. And we are able to significantly reduce the amount of spam our users receive.
We regret that we have to take this type of action, but given the amount of spam that is sent to our users, we have little choice. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience this causes you.
