How often does Brightmail send Spam Quarantine Summary emails to users?
You should receive one summary email per day. If no spam has been quarantined within a 24 hour period you will not receive a summary email for that time period.
I see more messages when I log into the Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine than are listed in the last Spam Quarantine Summary email I received - why the difference?
The Spam Quarantine Summary email displays only new messages that have been flagged as spam since you received your last summary email. Please note: the summary email can display a maximum of 250 messages. If there have been more than 250 messages quarantined since your last summary email you will have to log into the Brightmail Gateway to see the rest.
Is there a way to turn off receipt of the Spam Quarantine Summary email?
Unfortunately there is no way to set this at the individual level at this time. A workaround is to set up a filter in your email program that will place the summary emails in your trash or other folder.
What happens when I click on Release in the Spam Quarantine Summary email for a particular message?
Clicking Release automatically releases message and takes you to the Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine with a confirmation message indicating the message has been forwarded to your email account.
What happens when I click on View in the Spam Quarantine Summary email for a particular message?
Clicking View will take you to the Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine, where you you can view the entire message and take action (i.e. release message if it is mistakenly identified as spam).
I deleted my Spam Quarantine Summary email, how do I get to the Symantec Brightmail Gateway?
There is a link to the Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine on your Infinite Connection My Account page.
I received a message that was spam, why didn't the system catch it?
No system is 100% perfect, but you can submit such cases to Symantec by following the instructions on the Symantec site.
I saw a message in my Spam Quarantine Summary email or in my Spam Message Quarantine that was mistakenly identified as spam. How can I be sure this will not occur in the future?
If you click Release, the system will release the message and send it to your email address. It will also send the message to Symantec Security Response. Symantec Security Response analyzes message submissions to determine if
filters need to be changed. However, there is no
guarantee that filters are altered based on those submissions. To be safe you should add the sender's email address to your "good senders" list (see below).
How do I add an email address to my "bad senders" or "good senders" list? What options are available (e.g., wildcards)?
You will need to log into your Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine, which includes links to manage your "bad senders" and "good senders" list. Once you have navigated to the list you may follow the instructions below:
Add Bad Senders or Add Good Senders: Enter email addresses or domain names to add to your bad senders or good senders lists, separating multiple entries with commas.
Delete: Delete the selected email addresses or domain names from your bad senders or good senders lists.
Enable: Enable the selected email addresses or domain names in your bad senders or good senders lists.
Disable: Disable the selected email addresses or domain names in your bad senders or good senders lists.
Specifying a domain matches all senders from that domain. For example, if you specify the domain example.com, the following senders would match: chang@example.com, marta@example.com, and adnan@tech.example.com.
You can use the * and ? characters to match multiple senders. Use ? to represent any one character. For example, kar?n@example.com will match karen@example.com and karin@example.com. Use * to represent zero or more characters. For example, sam*@example.com will match sam@example.com, samuel123@example.com, and samson@example.com.
Email addresses and domain names are not case sensitive, meaning that it doesn't matter if you type a blocked or allowed sender using upper case, lower case, or a mix of both.
Please note: you are limited to a total of 200 entries in your combined Good Senders and Bad Senders lists.
What are Language Settings in my Spam Message Quarantine?
The Language Settings option allows users to enable language filtering, specifying whether to receive email in any language, only receive mail in one or more selected languages, or receive no email in one or more selected languages.
How do I enable language filtering for my Brightmail account?
You will need to log into your Brightmail Spam Message Quarantine, which includes a link to manage your language settings. Once you have navigated to the language setting page you may follow the instructions below:
Languages: Select the box next to one or more languages to apply your language settings to it.
Save: Save the changes you made on this page.
Cancel: Don't save the changes you made on this page.
