Applicants

The following students are eligible to apply:

• Undergraduate Students who are US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders)

• Graduates students who are US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and met with their advisors' permission

• Second Year International undergraduate and graduates (IE: international students who have studied in the United States for at least one full academic year and qualify for OPT.) They are to meet with their ISO advisor before submitting their application.

Infinite Connection Account

Students must have an Infinite Connection account to for secure access & to apply. (It’s free to current MIT students.)

Externship opportunities are posted for students beginning October 3 on the Association's Web site. Students can apply for up to 3 different externship opportunities. The more externships for which a student applies, the better chance he or she has of placement. Note: if the externship offers multiple slots, you should only apply to that externship offering once.

Prepare to Apply EARLY

Students can login in with their IC account to review the offerings and apply online beginning Wednesday, September 24 . Student should save copies of the externship descriptions for  reference when online access isn’t readily available, while assembling applications or when speaking with sponsors during interviews.

Submissions

Applicants will login through their IC Account, submit one pdf document (sorry, no word or text versions) for each externship. The submission pdf will contain both:

• the cover letter generically addressed "Dear Externship # Sponsor" and the reason you are applying to that specific externship to be immediately followed by
• your resume in standard format.

NOTE: the deadline to apply has changed to accommodate sponsors on-line review of students applications and allow more time to interview potential externship candidates. As sponsor will be accessing the applications directly from the on-line database, there is no opportunity to change or edit your applications once submitted. 

The deadline for student applications is Wednesday, October 8 at 9 a.m. Applying early is recommended as on-line traffic is heaviest near the deadline.

Once a successful student-sponsor match is made, the student is notified by email by the Alumni Association the week of November 17.  The matched students will then submit their completed waiver and attend one of the required orientation meetings. You can review Tips for a Successful Externship.
