IAP 2008 was a success for the Externship program with over 250 students participating with alumni in externships around the world. Here are a few students who documented their experiences:

Adriana Ciccone '09 has lived in Toronto, Cincinnati, and Geneva, and spent IAP working with Toll International, LLC in New York City. She is a Materials Science and

EXTERNSHIPS are:
- short-term opportunities with long-term benefits
- flexible
- global
- offered in a wide variety of fields,
- learning opportunities
- networking possibilities
- sometimes paid and
a great way to maximize IAP.
The Alumni Association's Student/Alumni Externship Program:
- gives students the opportunity to explore a career and
- offers alumni a chance to connect with current MIT students.
WHEN: During MIT's Independent Activities Period (IAP) January 5-30, 2009.
Externships can last a week to the entire length of IAP depending on the needs of the sponsor.
Externships are offered by alumni sponsors working for companies primarily in the Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco areas.
The externship opportunities will open for students on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. The deadline for IAP 2009 Externship student applications is Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 9 a.m.
