Class OrganizationsThe general business of the class is conducted by a set of officers elected every five years at the class reunion. Terms run from July 1 through June 30 in the year of the next reunion. These officers are responsible for maintaining and promoting connections within the class and MIT. Although the officers should help maintain a continuous connection with MIT, there will be increased activity as you approach your reunions. While class organization varies, the Alumni Association recommends that each class have (at minimum) a president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, webmaster and class agent. Classes may have additional officers and an executive committee, depending on the projects they wish to pursue. Other officers, who are appointed by the president or by the executive committee as the need arises, include the reunion chair, the reunion gift chair and email list editor. Most classes operate on an informal basis. Some older classes have found that the most important officer is the class secretary and have chosen to limit their organization to the functions of that officer. Some classes prefer to establish by-laws and a formal organizational structure. The Association will assist classes with whatever type of organizational structure they select.
