Class Volunteers

In 1865, the first students graduated from MIT, and the first alumni volunteered to keep their classes organized outside the Institute. Over the ensuing decades, thousands of alumni have donated their time and energy as class volunteers, planning reunion and events, connecting classmates with each other, raising money for class projects and reunion gift campaigns, and informing classmates about activities at MIT.

Online Lists and Labels

To help officers keep their class connected to MIT and each other, the Alumni Association is offering a new online service called Lists and Labels. With Lists and Labels, class officers can download lists of classmates and their contact information by region, student activity, living group and many other criteria. The service is an invaluable tool for contacting classmates about projects, recruiting committee members, or publicizing events in non-reunion years.

Non-Reunion Year Best Practices

The ideas outlined here are suggestions for basic practices that your class officer team can adopt as a means of establishing leadership structure throughout the five-year term of office.

Class Elections

Class elections are conducted every five years in conjunction with reunions. Elections can either be held online or during the reunion. Careful planning throughout the nominations and elections process ensures the class have seamless transitions in leadership.

Class Organizations

The general business of the class is conducted by the class officers. Classes use a variety of organizational structures. Job descriptions and information about common class officer positions are available online.

Class Activities

Class volunteers organize a variety of activities for their class, from quinquennial reunions to informal regional gatherings.
