Class Projects

To mark special occasions, such as graduation or a reunion, classes often establish funds that support MIT’s core needs and carry the class name. Over 100 class projects currently exist: 18 professorships, 67 scholarships, and 33 other projects that support other needs at MIT like UROPs, student life programs, and libraries. Some classes even establish multiple projects during their lifetimes. Check out the list of class projects to find yours or to see what other classes have done.

Nearly every class project is an endowed fund, which means that gifts made to the class project are invested. All income generated is used to support the fund’s purpose, such as providing financial aid or supporting a professor. More than $40M has been donated to class projects over the decades, providing a key resource that supports the Institute’s educational mission.

Classes often use reunion giving campaigns as a platform to renew support for class projects, although alumni can contribute to them at any time.

Giving to Class Projects

There are some compelling reasons to consider supporting your class project(s):

  • Class projects celebrate the accomplishments you and your peers have achieved and commemorate your time at MIT.
  • Class projects support core educational and student life needs.
  • By combining your gift with those of your classmates, a class project allows you to do more with your donations. The combination of many gifts from classmates establishes and supports a project that will provide educational resources in perpetuity.

Classes regularly receive updates on their projects, such as newsletters describing UROP research and updates about scholarship recipients. Classes are also periodically invited to events where they can meet students, professors, and others who benefit from these funds.
