Class GivingAbout Class GivingPhilanthropy on behalf of MIT is both a well-established tradition and a vital role for MIT classes. From building participation among fellow classmates, to advocating on behalf of certain MIT programs, to facilitating communications with their peers, alumni working to support MIT class giving is the foundation behind much of MIT's success. Reunion GivingClasses in reunion years establish reunion gift committees, which build support among classmates for the reunion gift campaigns. Focusing on participation and dollar goals, committees announce class participation results at a gathering of alumni during Tech Reunions in June. Your participation as a volunteer or donor for your class makes a significant difference for students and programs at MIT. Class ProjectsClasses often establish a project that reflects their interests and character. MIT classes have established 18 professorships, 67 scholarships, and 34 other projects including UROPs and student life funds. Over $50 million in class-sponsored funds are now committed to the enrichment of student life and learning, providing opportunities for current and future generations of MIT undergraduates. Class Giving VolunteersA network of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers encourages alumni philanthropy. Volunteers serve as class agents, reunion gift committee members, and on the Young Alumni Campaign Committee. Visit the class volunteer page for helpful resources or to learn more about alumni volunteer opportunities. Class Giving ResultsLast year over 32,000 alumni and friends supported the MIT Alumni Fund, raising a record $33.52 million. This achievement would not have been possible without the work of the roughly 2,000 volunteers who promote the case for MIT in education, research, and student life to the wider community of alumni and friends. The spectrum of class giving results is testament to the profound philanthropic impact of alumni and friends. Class Giving in Non-Reunion YearsAnnual gifts—at every level—are vitally important to MIT. Every gift counts in the Alumni Fund, regardless of its designation. Class agents serve an important role in non-reunion years by acknowledging gifts from classmates and by encouraging their peers to support the Institute.
