Brass Rat

Tradition Bonds MIT Alumni

Brass Rat

The distinctive Brass Rat instantly identifies MIT alumni to one another, inspiring camaraderie during job interviews and providing cocktail-party ice breakers. MIT undergrads devise designs that are ceremoniously revealed during junior year and now even graduate students have joined the beloved tradition. Learn more about the history of the Brass Rat.

Need to replace your ring? Contact the appropriate vendor below to see about your particular class's Brass Rat. Balfour/Artcarved keeps the original molds for class rings indefinitely, but other vendors may destroy molds after 10 years. The MIT Coop sells genuine Brass Rats that show the class year, but the overall design is generic and would not match the design originally chosen by a particular class.
