NSC Results

Thank you for voting! Now meet the newly elected members of the National Selection Committee.

National Selection Committee

The National Selection Committee (NSC) is responsible for selecting the president of the Alumni Association and all other members of the Association's Board of Directors which includes 12 district directors (there are currently 11 directors, the 12th will be selected in 2007), two young alumni, two young alumni directors, four vice presidents, and three alumni nominees to the MIT Corporation. The term of office for the president is one year but the president serves on the Association Board and its Presidents Committee for a total of four years. The vice presidents, the district directors and the young alumni directors serve alternating two-year terms. Corporation members serve five-year terms.

Membership on the National Selection Committee is by election through a national ballot, distributed online to alumni whose email addresses are recorded in the alumni database and as a printed ballot to all other alumni. The NSC term of office is three years, with one-third of the terms (including the chair) expiring every year. The Chair of the National Selection Committee, who must be selected from among Association past presidents, is appointed by the Board of Directors.

NSC members are elected at-large by the entire alumni body. All alumni vote for all seats on this committee. Candidates are nominated from each district by alumni leaders in clubs, classes, affinity groups, and members of the Association Board of Directors and other national boards and committees.

Criteria for nomination include an in-depth understanding of the Association's structure and purpose and a demonstrated success in volunteer leadership. Candidates have a breadth of experience in working with the fellow alumni to build commitment, involvement and financial support for MIT.

To ensure geographical diversity, 11 seats have been designated for an alumnus/a living in a specific district. Districts are determined by the current alumni population distribution.
